The Handbook is the most complete ever printed on loose abrasive finishing, mass finishing or bulk processing (literally processing en masse). In a technology where published literature was scattered among trade journals and conference proceedings, this work is a pratical compendium that is likely to become the "bible" of information on this subject. Writing style and coverage make it useful for management purposes, training, troubleshooting, reference, and professional advancement. The “how-to” details of all mass finishing/loose abrasive finishing processes will be as useful to experienced finishers as first-time users. Though the book is useful as a whole, the layout and writing are well designed for quick study of a particular technologies such as centrifugal barrel finishing. Choice on machinery, cycle times, special features, worksheets, etc. are typical contents for each of the many methods covered. Such an organization overcomes the difficulty caused by the many facets mass finishing, each with its unique characteristics, choice of media, processing variables, etc. Here's handy resource that can be applied immediately without complex mathematical calculations or theoretical analysis. Gillespie's book alots coverage to all of the major processes and the key issues surrounding deburring parts with mass finishing. The focus is upon finishing surface and edges using a variety of media to scrub and finish workpieces.

By putting established practices into print for wide distribution, this book is an essential step in the advancement of the deburring technology. Although people agree that the purpose of mass finishing is to improve surfaces and remove burrs, not everyone can agree upon a defintion of a burr. This book will help to establish common ground for further development with chapters on the key issues such as definitions, standards and specifications used in manufacturing. The end result will be lower costs for manufacturing through better understanding of processes and the way process components affect final costs.

About the author: A familiar participant at national and international manufacturing conferences and seminars, LaRoux Gillespie has spent his life studying deburring and compling notes and literature on mass finishing sources around the world. The depth of his efforts is reflected in related publications that list hunderds of companies making highly specialized machinery for mass finishing and bibliographies including over 4,500 articles and technical papers collected for professional journals and technical proceedings around the world. Much of his work is based on first hand experiences and contacts. Other important books by Gillespie are his Deburring and Edge Finishing Handbook.,and Hand Deburring.
